Haven Protocol: Psychological Techno-Thriller Novella | Ezekiel Lara

A silent, unbroken descent into Haven, the private recovery campus of the novella, driven by scrolling. The view begins on an elevated walkway above a long reflecting pool, the coastline and a full moon beyond. The camera descends to a terrace table holding a half-finished drink, an unfinished pastry and an overturned medicine bottle, then continues out over the terrace and down to the pool deck, passing an empty lounge chair with a towel and a book left on it. It drops to the water and glides the length of the pool, where the moon sits low between two cypress trees. Finally it crosses the water and enters a glass-walled lounge, coming to rest before an empty sectional couch with candles still lit, the moon centred in the open doors. No people appear at any point. There is no spoken dialogue and no sound.

01 — Admission

Mara noticed something that did not belong.

Mara Reyes makes a living finding anomalies in air-traffic systems. One routine shift leaves her with a report nobody wants and a question she cannot set aside.

Then an accident changes everything.

Haven is waiting when she wakes.

02 — The Protocol

Haven knows how to make people feel safe.

Quiet rooms. Attentive staff. A convincing explanation for every missing hour. Each answer sounds reasonable, until Mara asks for her old life back.

Observe

Someone is always paying attention.

Adjust

Every concern has a treatment.

Reassure

Every answer sounds like care.

The doors are open. The choices feel smaller every day.

03 — The Other Guests

The other guests have learned the rules.

They came from different lives, but each speaks about Haven carefully. Their warnings could be evidence. They could also be exactly what Mara has been told to expect.

Haven listens to every concern.

Then it decides what the concern means.

04 — The Open Door

The doors are open.

Every choice has consequences.

If care depends on obedience, who gets to decide when you are well?

To reclaim her life, Mara must decide what she trusts: her memory, her doctors, or the version of events everyone else has already accepted.

The Novella

Enter the Haven Protocol

Haven Protocol is a standalone psychological techno-thriller about memory, consent, and the unsettling distance between receiving care and surrendering control.

After a life-changing accident, systems analyst Mara Reyes wakes inside a private recovery campus that offers rest, treatment, and a convincing explanation. The more she asks for her old life back, the less certain she becomes that anyone believes her, including herself.
